✴ Chest Holster is great for hiking, backpacking, cycling, fishing, hunting, and driving.
✴ Designed to be worn on the exterior of your shirt, hunting jacket, etc, however, can also be worn under a garment like while driving or visiting a store in a high crime area. Nothing like bringing that 10mm GLOCK 40 or a Ruger Super Red Hawk Alaskan .454 Casull along for the ride.
✴ Adjustable harness with plenty of extra polyester webbing to fit plus-size people. Extra slack can be rolled up with a rubber band (in the event you need extra from going from Arctic outerwear to a t-shirt) or you can cut and melt the ends with a lighter. The best method we found was to heat a metal putty knife with a torch and it slices right through sealing the ends at the same time.

The “WRAPTOR” chest holster is the culmination of countless hours of research in the Detroit Holster shop, meeting rooms, dinners, driving, and ultimately in the woods. We spared no expense with the components that make up this chest holster. This tenacity in design and product component research is what sets the WRAPTOR apart from anything else on the market.
The WRAPTOR is the ultimate outdoor activities holster, especially for large-caliber handguns. Whether hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, driving your vehicle, or the riding mower on your acreage the WRAPTOR provides easy access to your handgun. As with most friction-fit Kydex holsters drawing is best accomplished with a quick snapping motion vs. a slow draw.
The WRAPTOR can comfortably handle a large-frame handgun. Our thermo-forming technique for building this holster provides for an approximate 90/10 split of the holster with about 10% of the gun protruding inward and 90% outward providing for a much closer, body-hugging design than many other holsters on the market utilizing a traditional 50/50 split.
WHAT SETS THE DETROIT HOLSTER – WRAPTOR APART ?
We are all outdoorsmen here – and we made this holster the best possible; what we wanted to wear in the woods!
- THE KYDEX
- .08″ Kydex available in dozens of colors.
- The back of the hoster is always black unless you make a special order request.
- We are now building the back of the holster with thicker, .093″ Kydex for some of the larger and heavier configurations.
- Great balance between durability and definition as used in all of our holster products.
- THE HARNESS WEBBING
- WE USE THE BEST WEBBING – POLYESTER – where many others use Nylon. They didn’t do their homework.
- Polyester webbing is superior for this application – perfect for outdoor use due to its UV resistance and waterproof fibers. Polyester webbing won’t stretch like Nylon webbing can, and is more resistant to acid, alkaline, oil, and grease. It is completely waterproof whereas Nylon is like a sponge – your gear will need to be hung to dry.
- Our webbing is 2″ throughout which during testing felt much more secure than the smaller width variety. Again, like always we went with what was best, not what was least expensive to build.
- Our webbing is military spec and available in a growing variety of colors.
- NOTE – DESIGN CHANGE ON OUR PLASTIC BUCKLE HARDWARE:
- Starting 9/7/2021 on all orders we will no longer build the hardness with three plastic buckles but have transitioned to a one-buckle design. We did this after customer input suggested this idea which reduced bulk and body pressure depending on what clothing was being worn, etc. This change eliminated two of the three webbing stub straps attached to the holster (forcing us to move our logo patch to the rear), kept plastic pressure points off of your shoulder and rib cage, and reduced the price of the holster. - THE HARDWARE
- Another thing that sets us apart from the competition is the fact that this holster is made with ALL stainless steel screws, posts, and finish washers. These hardware components cost anywhere from 2 – 3 times as much as plain black anodized hardware – that’s why no one else offers them to you. We felt stainless steel hardware was very important in this premium outdoors holster and comes standard with the WRAPTOR!
- We also include a FREE full extra set of post and screw hardware for the harness connection points already installed on the holster so you have spares all the time – just in case!
- The harness connection points at the holster are metal chafe loops with a roller. This single-point connection provides the ability for the webbing to slightly swivel which helps with self-adjustment and comfort.
- Blue LocTite is used on all screw and post connections for added security.
- Available Level 2 (user-acuated) Retention Strap option to secure handgun into holster – see photo for details.
- LEVEL-2 RETENTION OPTIONS
- Since our holsters are Level-1 retention/friction-fit, you may want to seriously consider configuring either our Level-2 retention strap or hood – ESPECIALLY if you have a laser/light installed as most retention in this scenario is on the light/laser vs. the trigger guard (i.e. even less retention than a gun not equipped with light/laser).

- This is literally just the soft belt loop strap with snap used on our other holster models.

- Thumb Release Hood
- This is a full mechanical mechanism. A thumb release button and hood.
- The thumb release is perfectly sized and positioned for repeatable positive activation of the release while securing a firm grip all in one single motion. No additional grip adjustments need to be made prior to or after the drawing of the pistol.
- 1″ Retention Strap
- Since our holsters are Level-1 retention/friction-fit, you may want to seriously consider configuring either our Level-2 retention strap or hood – ESPECIALLY if you have a laser/light installed as most retention in this scenario is on the light/laser vs. the trigger guard (i.e. even less retention than a gun not equipped with light/laser).
The smooth action thumb release activates the spring-loaded hood in a fraction of a second. This allows for the pistol to be immediately drawn as soon as the grip is secure. Much different from other designs which require the depressing of the lock release followed by a forward movement by the user to secure the grip.
The rearward unlocking motion saves valuable spacing between the retention system and the mounting platform. Because it doesn’t require the thumb to push down and outward (toward the body), this retention is ideal for mounting on a chest rig/vest carrier system.

- Again, 100% commercial grade Polyester sized for our application – NOT nylon – which means better UV and mildew resistance and extreme strength.

- With the modular design, you can use our harness system and simply remove the Kydex shell replacing it with another WRAPTOR holster shell designed for a different model gun.

I received my order. I am incredibly impressed. I checked every mag size I have in 10 mm to 30 round. The holstered firearm holds perfectly in place. Very flat, form fitting. Completely clear of any string travel. I will highly recommend your product to anyone who asks. The strap is very solid and comfortable. Attachment points are well designed. Perfect for the silence gained by stability. I’m able to jump up and down and off stairs and no bounce in the holster. It’s just attached, and in place. I scramble fields of deadfall timber at times. As the archer when gear clangs hunts over. The Kryptek Army pattern is a perfect non glare dark breakup for the timber hunter. Against the Glock frame it looks awesome. I can’t wait to spend a few hundred days in the woods.

If you or anyone else is wondering why this Wraptor is wanted for 22LR the answer is simple, “it’s awesome”. On an operational level I trap beavers and other critters in the spring and a 22LR is usually needed. I’m in and out of jet boats, utv’s, atv’s, vehicles ect. Having fast access to a firearm is a big help but even more importantly is having that firearm secure and safe when a person is working which at times includes tripping or falling over brush ect.
After using your Wraptor last season in Alaska on an archery moose hunt it became very obvious your Wraptor is at the tip of spear for chest holsters in that or similar environments. I wore your holster in and out of planes, up and down mountains, across rivers, endless deadfalls and brush and it worked great. I wore in underneath my bino harness and had immediate access to the weapon. Third day I had an unexpected close encounter with a boar grizzly which thankfully decided to go the other way, but I was ready for him within seconds had he not.
I spent almost a decade in L.E. using different gear/equipment. It was hard to find companies that took it another level, you guy’s certainly have with your equipment and customer service, so thank you!
I will do my best to spread the word.
Bear attacks and have been significantly increasing in the western states…….. there is a pretty high demand for quality gear that’s functional in bear country. I’m pretty confident that if more people knew about your Wraptor they would buy one in heartbeat.
